Final Fantasy XIII: Freaking Eidolon Battles
Submitted by Xenoveritas on Mon, 2010-03-15 20:29 ::The Eidolon battles in Final Fantasy XIII are stupidly hard. These are the battles where you fight against a summon monster in order to gain the ability to summon it in battle.
Now you might be assuming I'm complaining about them being challenging. Except they're not, they're basically just rapidly switching between Paradigms and mashing X. (Or A on the Xbox 360.)
No, instead they're needlessly hard because of the way they're designed.

CBS's "NCIS" Cold-Blooded Murder List
Submitted by Xenoveritas on Wed, 2010-03-03 02:54 ::The CBS show NCIS has had their characters kill people in cold blood quite a few times. This post attempts to create a list of victims who have either been killed in cold blood directly by a "good guy" or indirectly via ploys by the "good guys."
Needless to say, the spoilers below.

Wait, How Are They Going to do Tceles-B Hsup?
Submitted by Xenoveritas on Fri, 2010-02-26 07:07 ::One of the things in Final Fantasy was a "magic spell" taught to you by a broom that told you to Tceles-B Hsup - "push B-select" backwards. It brought up the world map. How can they do that on the iPhone?

Ah. Like that.

Whatever. In any case, Final Fantasy (both I and II) are out for iPhone. Here are some screenshots from my first 15 minutes (yeah, I know, not very interesting):
I'm glad to see the StAX documentation is well proffread
Submitted by Xenoveritas on Fri, 2010-02-05 22:09 ::I'm glad to see the Java StAX documentation is proffread - because it certainly isn't proofread.
Two examples are below, one from XMLStreamReader, and another from XMLOutputFactory.
Converting the http_proxy environment variable to Java settings via script
Submitted by Xenoveritas on Tue, 2010-01-19 22:01 ::Since this involves some shell parameter expansion magic, I've written a very simple script for copying the "http_proxy" environment variable to the Java proxy properties. Read More for the script.

ZSNES on Mac OS X
Submitted by Xenoveritas on Wed, 2009-12-30 19:23 ::ZSNES is a cross-platform (well, cross-OS, since it's written in assembly - so x86 only) Super Nintendo emulator.
Since it can be compiled for Linux, it stands to reason it can be compiled for Mac OS X.
And it can. More (including a DMG) after the jump.
