LittleBigPlanet's Lose-Lose Premium Costume Dilemma

::

LittleBigPlanet has announced that they're offering special "premium" costumes that you're expected to pay to download.

It's a lose-lose proposition, really, though. A big part of LittleBigPlanet is the online community. This means that there are basically two options:

  1. You download the actual costume. Anyone who has not bought the costume won't see you in it.
  2. You download the right to use the costume. The costume is then pushed to all users in a content patch, so others can see your premium virtual threads.

PS3 JavaScript Performance

::

According to Masaki Takase, the PS3's JavaScript performance beats that of IE7's.

Really? That sounds like something that's testable! Cue SunSpider!

Well, actually, no. Because the PS3 browser can't handle all the SunSpider tests. I had to remove three of them to get it to complete. Results in the full article.

Best Buy Completely Screws Up LittleBigPlanet Release

::

You may have heard about LittleBigPlanet. It's only one of the most anticipated games this year. In order to increase anticipation, Sony released several preorder bonuses that were given to various retailers.

Best Buy got a special downloadable Nariko SackGirl, a costume for your character.

RetroView: Devil May Cry 3 versus Devil May Cry 4

::

We've recently been playing Devil May Cry 4, which got me back into playing Devil May Cry 3.

You see, Xeno, with his shiny black colossus that he theoretically got to play MGS4 and then promptly ignored it, can play DMC4. See, I don't have an XBOX or a PS3, and don't feel like getting the PC version (DMC is the epitome of a CONSOLE game) so I'm stuck with my older DMC3SE. You know what, though? I don't mind.

PlayStation Network portable ID

::

With the addition of trophies, it was inevitable that eventually Sony would copy the online profile aspect of Xbox Live.

And they have, sort of:

That's it. An avatar, your user name, and what would be an "about me" message if I ever bother to fill it in.

Review: Devil May Cry 4

::
System: PlayStation 3
Score: 4/5 4 (Good)

Devil May Cry 4 introduces a new main character named Nero. This, of course, introduces fears of Raiden Syndrome. And Devil May Cry 4 falls prey to this: Nero isn't really an annoying character, but ultimately, he's Not Dante, and Devil May Cry 4 is not Devil May Cry 3.

On Metal Gear Solid 4...

::

It has to be said, plain and simple: I have far more fun playing Devil May Cry 4 than Metal Gear Solid 4.

Despite Devil May Cry 4 receiving an 84 on MetaCritic and Metal Gear Solid 4 getting a 94.

In short, while MGS4 is by no means a terrible game, it's vastly overrated. DMC4 is, simply put, more fun (to me at least) than MGS4. That's all there is to it.

(Not that DMC4 isn't without its problems. It's got them.)

Review: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

::
System: PSP
Score: 2/5 2 (Poor)
FF7 Fan Score: 4/5 4 (Good)

This game was obviously created for Final Fantasy VII fans. If you didn't obsessively follow every plot point in Final Fantasy VII the story will be confusing. If you don't remember what Jenova is or how Cloud relates to the Sephiroth clones, you might want to find a story guide before playing.

If you never played Final Fantasy VII and have no plans to, then forget it. The story will make no sense, the cutscenes that exist solely for Final Fantasy VII fans will mean nothing, and the gameplay just isn't fun enough to make up for this.

Sony: Don't Bother Buying PS3 Until June

::

Sony has announced that, in an effort to meet their March sales target, no one should bother buying a PlayStation 3 until June 12th.

In a posting on the PlayStation blog, Sony explained that with the April release of the Dual Shock 3 controller and a new PlayStation 3 bundle on June 12th, there's simply no reason to buy a PS3 until then.

Sony Replaces 80GB PS3 With 80GB PS3

::

So, after taking the current 80GB PS3 off the market, tons of speculation was raised that Sony would be releasing a new PS3. After all, why else would they remove a model that, according to Sony, was selling as well as the 40GB model if not to replace it with a new, better model?

Unfortunately it would appear "winning" the Blu-ray battle has returned Sony back to our old "you're lucky to even be allowed to buy a PS3" Sony. The 80GB PS3 will be replaced with an 80GB PS3.
