I talked about talking about nothing, which was really just me proving that you can talk about nothing and sound like an egotistical asshole saying that everyone else talks about nothing but I don't. Oh yeah.
Now I present my half of the new OffTopic! Let's get it on.
- First and Foremost: WIIIIIIIIIIIII!
All jokes aside, what the hell, Nintendo. I knew you had an RPG pointed at your foot, but I didn't realize you were going to USE it. Ah well. At least it's just the name. I'll give them credit: It is a revolutionary name. Oh so revolutionary. - PS3: What we gonna see?
E3's just around the corner, and I'm curious, Sony. Whatcha got for us? You're gonna have your PS3 lineup, right? Of course you are. - Theater Lighting: How to color balance.
Now I realize all the lights I was using were kinda out-of-tune and all disgustingly in need of a cleaning, but.. all cool colors for Grease is kinda boring. I still wish I had time to fix them before the show... or at least gel some more warm. Very warm. But that's what you get with a budget of $0. - MMORPGs.
Where are they going? With Blizzard's World of Warcraft, I figured more people would try to get in on this market, but all we've been getting is kinda rushed MMOs with lousy reviews. Where's the next "innovative" one? - Speaking of RPGs, skill trees.
Customizeable characters are fun. And one of the best ways to do that is with skill trees. Yeah, it's fun to have everything, but forcing a player to give up something to gain something else is important: especially if they're equally powerful yet not the same thing. Look at where Final Fantasy's been going recently: First the Sphere Grid and now the Chess Board. Or whatever they're calling it. - More on RPGs: Interesting worlds.
Nowadays, every single RPG plot has been done to death. Cursed kings, heroic anti-heroes, light vs. darkness, and all that jazz. Sure, tried and tested, but nowadays we blur the line between good and evil. - ...But blur it, don't remove it.
Good and evil are old - and I mean old - moral concepts. However, evil is defined as straying from established values. Thusly, evil is a very ambiguous term. That's why we blur it. But don't have ex-villains become "good" guys. The battle between "evil" and "good" shouldn't end with "evil" becoming "good." Come on, guys. Star Wars totally did that already. - New Concepts!
In stories in general, that is. I'm guilty of this myself, actually. We steal other people's concepts because we like them. But where does copying end and originality begin? Huh. Profound. - Flying Monkeys.
When you run out of stuff to talk about, what do you talk about? Ah yes.
This should be the most stuff I've had to talk about in a while. Catch it sometime when I have time to record it!
