This is, yet again, an attempt to write down a policy that's been in effect for quite a while.

All comments go to moderation. I will get around to checking the moderation queue - honestly. (OK, not all comments - administrators and certain "blessed" accounts - of which there are none - also get to skip the moderation queue.)

All comments are subject to a "lameness filter" that will reject comments based on programmatic filters. These are basically an attempt to block spam without requiring a captcha.

However all comments are subject to deletion based on the following:

  • Spam will be deleted. Anything that looks like spam will be deleted.
  • No ALL CAPS, or MOSTLY CAPs since I think the lameness filter catches all caps.
  • Posts requesting responses by email will likely be deleted, but not necessarily deleted. Currently there's no way to be updated if someone posts a response to your comment (sorry). The theory behind this one is that the answer should be posted to the site so other people can find it.
  • Posts that are incomprehensible will be deleted. This includes random letters or posts that are primarily non-English for no apparent reason.

This isn't a comprehensive list. There may be reasons comments get deleted that do not fall under this list.
