RetroView: Devil May Cry 3 versus Devil May Cry 4
Submitted by Tim on Fri, 2008-07-25 04:21. ::We've recently been playing Devil May Cry 4, which got me back into playing Devil May Cry 3.
You see, Xeno, with his shiny black colossus that he theoretically got to play MGS4 and then promptly ignored it, can play DMC4. See, I don't have an XBOX or a PS3, and don't feel like getting the PC version (DMC is the epitome of a CONSOLE game) so I'm stuck with my older DMC3SE. You know what, though? I don't mind.

Sony Announces In-Shirt XMB
Submitted by Xenoveritas on Wed, 2008-02-20 04:02. ::Citing considerable demand, Sony has announced that they will be offering in-shirt Cross-Media Bar in a new firmware update for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable consoles. The feature would, for the first time, allow people to access the cross-media bar while they are wearing a shirt. Currently using the Cross-Media Bar requires gamers to don a kimono. Sony has not yet set a timeline for when this feature will be available.
Sony remained silent when asked if they would also offer in-blouse and in-hoodie Cross-Media Bar support.
I guess Mario isn't quite so passé
Submitted by Xenoveritas on Thu, 2007-11-29 05:49. ::I've been watching Rise of the Video Game on Discovery channel. It's somewhat interesting to see what they say and what they show.
In the second episode, they mention that "the era of the mustached plumber is over," talking about how Mario has become passé and "more realistic" games like Grand Theft Auto 3, Halo, The Godfather and the like have taken over.
Final Fantasy PSP Remakes
Submitted by Xenoveritas on Tue, 2007-10-09 15:11. ::So while picking up my copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass from GameStop (a place I'm beginning to really despise) I noticed the Final Fantasy I and II remakes for PSP. I checked the back of the case and noticed that one of the features was "same great gameplay!"
For those that played the originals, one of the greatest features of the GameBoy Advance remake was that it changed the gameplay into something that can be considered fun today as opposed to when they were released.
Yeah, I loved Final Fantasy when I played it on the original NES, but let's be honest - the gameplay isn't up to today's standards. No, it's not that it's "too hard" as much as it's "too random" and involves too much grinding for levels. Especially Final Fantasy II, if they kept the original growth rates.

So I Finally Got Final Fantasy XII...

So far, I'm up to Episode 3 in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
Comparing Supreme Commander to Total Annihilation
Submitted by Xenoveritas on Mon, 2007-03-19 19:24. ::I recently got Supreme Commander and have proven, several times, that despite meeting the minimum requires, my computer really can't play the game. (Among other things, it's crashed half the time I've tried to play it, and one of the only games that didn't crash fell to below 1 FPS when I was attacking the enemies main base.)
So, since I can't actually play the game, I can't exactly create a review for it. Instead, I'm going to compare it to Total Annihilation, since Supreme Commander is TA's "spiritual successor."
First off, unit types. TA had four unit types: KBots, vehicles (tanks), airplanes, and ships. (This was later expanded to include hovercraft.) SC simplifies this to three: land, air, and water. While there are no units called kbots, all three factions have large walking robots (excluding the Commander, of course). So there's a smaller collection of units to contend with, and most units take on roles similar to TA: anti-air, anti-land, anti-water, anti-base, and others.
